Designed by local architect Thomas Harris and built in the Palladian style the Old Crown Court in Aylesbury was completed in 1740. The Court is steeped in history and is famously known for holding the Aylesbury Assizes trail of the Great Train robbery in 1964. The court remained in use until 2018 when the Crown Court moved to magistrates’ court building.
Since its closure, the building and its Court room has become a popular filming location; although many local residents will recall that the exterior being featured in the BBC series Judge John Deed in the early 2000s and the Court rooms even featured in the Miss Marple Series – Murder Most Foul in 1964.
The interior consists of two court rooms and a number of ancillary spaces providing plenty of space for productions to provide green rooms, crowd holding space close to the shoot location. If you are interested in filming at Aylesbury Crown Court, please contact the Buckinghamshire Film Office.
